Agent Client
An Obsidian community plugin that provides an AI chat interface. It enables conversation by invoking AI CLIs installed locally, such as Gemini CLI, and supports switching between multiple providers.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The Agent Client plugin does not require an API Key, because the authorization step is handled by Gemini CLI itself and the plugin merely acts as a front-end interface for the CLI.
After installing the Agent Client plugin, you must click "Enable", otherwise no entry will appear in the sidebar.
Obsidian plugins are divided into core plugins (officially built in) and community plugins (developed by third parties); Agent Client is a community plugin, and Obsidian does not perform security review on it.
After selecting Gemini in the provider list at the top right of the Agent Client panel, the plugin automatically tries to connect to the local Gemini CLI installation.
Plugins like Agent Client abstract a unified chat interface that adapts to different backend engines (such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code, etc.), so a provider switcher menu appears in the top-right corner of the panel.
The plugin depends on the local CLI, and if a later CLI upgrade or a change of Node environment causes the command to fail, the plugin side will lose its connection as well.
Conversation content does not first pass through a plugin relay server, but requests are ultimately still sent to Google's model services.
The process for connecting Obsidian with Gemini conversations is: CLI ready → install plugin → select Gemini → test conversation, which can be completed in four steps.
