Agentic retrieval

A retrieval paradigm that does not rely on embedding indexes. Instead, an AI agent equipped with shell tools locates answers by repeatedly executing grep, opening files and reading layer by layer. It offers semantic accuracy and traceable citations, but requires re-traversing files for each query, with cost accumulating linearly with the number of questions.
