CCAR-F
An official technical certification examination introduced by Anthropic, targeting solutions architects. It assesses architectural design competencies for building enterprise AI applications using Claude Code, the Agent SDK, APIs, and MCP. Access is restricted to members of the Claude partner network.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The retake waiting periods for CCAO-F and CCAR-F are the same: 14 days after the first failure, 30 days after the second, and 90 days after the third; a maximum of four attempts within a rolling 12 months, each requiring payment.
CCAO-F (Claude Certified Associate – Foundations) and CCAR-F (Claude Certified Architect – Foundations, also often written as CCA-F) are independent certifications for different work scenarios, rather than two levels of the same exam.
The CCAR-F certification covers foundational knowledge of Claude Code, the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), with questions based on production environments such as customer service agents, multi-agent research pipelines, and CI/CD integration.
The CCAR-F exam lists MCP integration as a separate domain weighted at 18%.
The CCAR-F exam draws questions from 5 content domains, of which "Agent Architecture and Orchestration" accounts for 27%, "Tool Design and MCP Integration" for 18%, "Claude Code Configuration and Workflows" for 20%, "Prompt Engineering and Structured Output" for 20%, and "Context Management and Reliability" for 15%.
CCAO-F and CCAR-F are highly consistent in exam format: both have 60 questions and 120 minutes, single- and multiple-select items, a scaled score of 720 to pass (on a 100–1,000 scale), proctoring (online and/or at a test center), and a validity period of 12 months.
The CCAO-F exam fee is 99 USD, and the CCAR-F exam fee is 125 USD.
Both CCAO-F and CCAR-F use a criterion-referenced assessment model, where a scaled score of 720 corresponds to a fixed competency threshold that does not fluctuate with the level of the candidate population.
The CCAR-F exam randomly draws four of six scenarios, each centered on a set of production-environment questions.
Registration and scheduling for both CCAO-F and CCAR-F are handled through Anthropic Partner Academy and Pearson VUE, and renewal is completed through a free unproctored assessment on Partner Academy.
