Cross-Validation
A method for reliably evaluating model performance in machine learning by partitioning a dataset into K subsets and iteratively using each as a validation set. Systematized by Seymour Geisser in 1975, it makes more complete use of available data compared to a single train-test split and reveals model stability across different data samples.
Core Facts
Credibility is higher only when multiple independent evaluation sources reach consistent conclusions, and multiple evaluation sources should be cross-validated.
Cross-validation should be used rather than a single train/test split to evaluate model performance more reliably.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Effective cross-validation requires verifiable sources, such as official release logs, API documentation change records, or separate confirmation by multiple independent media outlets.
Cross-validation means finding two or more mutually independent sources for the same fact and comparing them, with each source traceable to first-hand evidence; independence requires that no citation relationship exists between the sources.
Data-driven dimension selection in tensor regression commonly uses BIC-type criteria, cross-validation, or eigenvalue ratio methods; since the search space is the Cartesian product of the candidate dimensions of each mode, exhaustive search is costly, and common strategies are iterative per-mode selection or setting thresholds based on the eigenvalue spectrum.
When the amount of data is small, cross-validation is needed to obtain more stable evaluation results.
The generator–reviewer cross-validation pattern is effective on the premise that the reviewing party can obtain independent context; otherwise it easily produces a collusion effect of "same model, same error."
From June to September 2024, interviewers' follow-up questioning on project details noticeably intensified, with questions shifting from what models were used to dimensions such as agent metric calculation, user satisfaction assurance, cross-validation, permission control, tenant isolation and data security boundaries.
Scanning C values in 5-fold cross-validation, C=1e-06 gives an AUC of 0.617 ± 0.019, C=0.001 is best at an AUC of 0.749 ± 0.010, and C=1 gives 0.732 ± 0.007.
Marcos used KFold(n_splits=5, shuffle=True, random_state=1) for 5-fold cross-validation and refit the vectorizer in each fold, with per-fold AUCs of 0.731, 0.730, 0.736, 0.741, and 0.721, a mean of about 0.732, and a standard deviation of 0.007.
Cross-verification (in the context of information consumption) refers to confirming the reliability of a claim by comparing multiple mutually independent information sources, with specific practices including tracing original data sources, checking the qualifications of authors or institutions, comparing reports from media of different positions, and confirming whether key numbers have verifiable sources.
In the context of machine learning and agent engineering, cross-validation usually refers to using multiple independent means to check the consistency of the same output.
