DDPG
An algorithm that was among the first to introduce deep neural networks into deterministic policy gradient methods. It is designed for reinforcement learning tasks with continuous action spaces, combining insights from DQN and the deterministic policy gradient theorem to enable off-policy learning.
Timeline (last 90 days)
PPO is an on-policy algorithm and can only use data collected by the current policy for updates, so data produced by old policies is discarded; off-policy algorithms such as DDPG and SAC can use historical data in the experience replay buffer and have higher sample efficiency.
In AUV scenarios, PPO has a higher tolerance for reward shaping than off-policy algorithms such as DDPG, making it suitable for the design of sparse or segmented rewards in underwater environments.
Roxie has seven built-in continuous control algorithms: DDPG, TD3, D4PG, TD4, SAC, MPO, and PPO.
TD3 builds on DDPG by mitigating overestimation through dual Q-networks and delayed policy updates.
