End-to-End Learning
A machine learning paradigm that bypasses the traditional perception-planning-control pipeline and directly trains a neural network to map raw sensor inputs to control commands. NVIDIA DAVE-2 is a representative work.
Timeline (last 90 days)
End-to-end learning integrates multiple stages such as detection, feature extraction, fusion and matching into a jointly optimizable framework, reducing error accumulation among hand-designed modules, but it requires large-scale annotated video data and high computational resources.
The value of using PyTorch to solve the knapsack problem lies in scenarios requiring end-to-end learning: for example, when the item values or constraints themselves come from a neural network prediction, the knapsack solver can be embedded as a differentiable layer to enable joint training.
In vehicle-mounted scenarios, sensor height, pitch angle, and geometric relationships are basically uniform, so end-to-end 3D detection models can generalize well; in roadside scenarios, pole height, tilt angle, and field of view vary enormously, making end-to-end models highly prone to failure and requiring large amounts of location-specific annotated data.
The end-to-end learning approach bypasses the traditional perception-localization-planning-control layered pipeline, directly training a neural network to map raw sensor input to chassis actuation commands.
In its 2016 DAVE-2 paper, NVIDIA systematically validated the end-to-end learning approach: collecting front-view camera footage and a human driver's steering angle with a real car, and training a CNN to directly output the steering wheel angle.
End-to-end learning refers to having a neural network directly map from raw sensor inputs to motor control commands, bypassing the manual design of separate modules for perception, planning, and control.
End-to-end learning refers to having a neural network directly map from raw sensor inputs to motor control commands, bypassing independent modules such as perception, planning, and control.
An increasing number of competing teams have begun adopting end-to-end learning methods, replacing traditional manual parameter tuning with large-scale simulation training.
