Index Routing
A request distribution pattern in multi-model systems that routes requests to different model endpoints according to preset rules, supporting the registration and invocation of pluggable components.
Timeline (last 90 days)
When building a multi-model routing system, the author originally planned to follow the index routing pattern, mounting encoders from different providers.
Index routing is a pattern that distributes requests to different model endpoints according to preset rules, and its advantage lies in decoupling the caller from the specific provider, so that adding a new encoder only requires registration without changing business code.
Introducing an independent decision routing layer means adding a layer of logic dedicated to scheduling the invocation strategy of decision models, which can centrally handle trade-offs among degradation, retries, cost, and latency, at the cost of an extra layer of abstraction in the system and the need to clearly define the boundary between the two routing layers.
