Databricks AI Search now natively supports Streaming Tables, Materialized Views and Managed Tables (based on Iceberg).
For Unity Catalog managed tables, Unity Catalog is responsible for managing the table's metadata as well as the storage location and cleanup logic for the underlying data files; when a managed table is deleted, the corresponding data files are automatically cleaned up.
If you want the platform to take full responsibility for the storage lifecycle, choose managed tables; if you need to retain independent control over data files or reuse existing storage, choose external tables.
