TabICL
A foundation model that reformulates tabular data prediction as an in-context learning task. During pretraining, the model internalizes prior knowledge of data distributions, enabling direct prediction at inference time without retraining on new datasets.

TabICLv2 is an iterated version of the TabICL (Tabular In-Context Learning) series of models, whose core is pretraining a Transformer on a large number of synthetic tabular tasks so that it completes classification or regression relying on in-context examples.
In a comparative experiment, TabPFN and TabICL outperformed tuned XGBoost on all 14 test tasks.
TabICL (Tabular In-Context Learning) transforms tabular prediction problems into in-context learning tasks, requiring only a single inference in practice, eliminating the need for training and hyperparameter search.
A reasonable strategy is to use TabPFN/TabICL to quickly obtain high-quality baselines in the early stages of a project, and then revert to mature solutions such as XGBoost for large-scale production or tasks requiring deep interpretability.
