Trellis 2
An open-source 3D generation model released by Microsoft. It uses a Structured Latent (SLAT) representation combined with sparse voxel diffusion, supports 1530-resolution meshes and 4K textures, and handles transparency natively. The full version requires approximately 24 GB of VRAM, while an optimized version supports 6 GB.
Timeline (last 90 days)
A crawler calling itself "Trellis 2 Data Collection" swept through three 3D model communities—Oven Sunday Lab, SFM Lab and SmartBass—in mid-October with 26,000 requests over 34 hours.
The crawler read nearly 19,000 project homepages and downloaded 1,027 complete files totaling 145GB.
Trellis 2, rather than Pixar 3D, must be enabled for texture processing, because Pixar 3D sometimes generates oddly oriented geometry and rendered textures tend to appear overly dark.
Pixar 3D generally delivers more accurate results from the front view, while Trellis 2 has better generalization, especially in restoring the back of a model from a single viewpoint.
Local 3D generation tools such as Trellis 2 and Pixar 3D produce raw meshes with issues including internal voids, hidden faces, and millions of polygons, making them unsuitable for direct use in game engines.
Visual Bruno's Trellis 2 repository implements Pixel 3D and its multi-view workflow.
The Trellis 2 version is more complex to install but provides mesh texturing functionality, can re-texture existing 3D models with materials, and supports stronger UV unwrapping in Blender as well as filling holes with MeshLab.
