Upsampling
A technique that increases the pixel resolution of an image through interpolation algorithms. It alters the alignment between the pixel grid and curve boundaries, so that jagged edges are resampled into smoother transitions, but it does not create new detail.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Upsampling optimization renders the sky to an off-screen texture at a lower resolution first and then scales and composites it into the full-resolution image, making fragment computation drop with the square of the resolution.
Upsampling a 1024-pixel image to 2048 pixels and then tracing it smooths out jaggies without fabricating details out of thin air; beyond 2048 pixels no further improvement is observable.
Most IPTV services that claim to offer 8K actually deliver content that is upscaled from 4K or even 1080p.
