Z-Wave
A low-power wireless communication protocol for smart homes that uses mesh networking. Devices form a mesh to relay messages across the network, and access typically requires a dedicated hub gateway to manage and coordinate the connected devices.
Timeline (last 90 days)
In a Z-Wave network, when the pairing process is interrupted by network congestion or an unstable signal, a "ghost device" may form—a leftover node that the controller believes exists but that cannot actually communicate.
Z-Wave device pairing usually requires entering the first five digits of the DSK (Device Specific Key) PIN, which is printed on the device label.
In the Z-Wave security protocol, using a universal super admin PIN (such as 00000) weakens the trust chain of the Z-Wave S2 security framework and introduces a risk of unauthorized access.
The fragmentation problem of smart homes includes three levels: the protocol level (multiple wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, and Bluetooth coexist, and different devices require different gateways or bridges), the application level (users may simultaneously use apps from multiple brands to control different devices), and the account and privacy level (data is scattered across servers of multiple vendors).
Gladys Assistant 5 supports the three mainstream smart home wireless protocols: Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Matter.
