Stephen Reicher, a social psychologist at the University of St Andrews in the UK, took part in the BBC's 2002 reenactment of the Stanford Prison Experiment, which used the same random grouping and mock prison setup, and the result was that the guards simply did not want to be guards, and no tyrannical behavior occurred.
